splatterlink - samorost (samarost)

Amongst the stars are the tree asteroids full of wonders to explore. Samorost is the first flash game to enter splatterlink's recommendations, a delightful flash game full of collages, art, and intriguing puzzles. We have interviewed the creator, amanita.

What is "samorost"?

Samorost is short adventure flash game. It was my thesis work on (Czech) Academy of Arts.

What does "samorost" mean?

I don't know english word for samorost but it is a piece of wood or root which looks weird or reminds some creature. exactly something self growing... (Think of the German "alraune", the Chinese "ginseng" or the Czech "otesanek" -- splattergnome)

Where did you get the inspiration for samorost?

In the woods near my house or on magic mushrooms :)

How did you make it? Which tools did you use?

First I took some detail pictures of wood, moss, stones etc. then I cut, combine and retouch it in Photoshop and final bitmaps I imported to flash.

What feedback did you get about the game?

I have got a lot of nice emails and some awards (FWA).

Tell us something about the creator of samorost.

I'm 24, freelance graphic designer, I like music (psytrance, jungle, jazz, lo-fi ...), trips to nature (Romania is the best), pubs and girls.

What other projects are you working on?

Now I'm relaxing a little - I have holidays.

What are your future plans?

I don't know exactly but I want to make another flash game or some weird independent project.
